Magoha to install computerised accounting systems for tracking funds in ministry

A computerised accounting system will ensure that allocated funds are well used, Education Cabinet Secretary nominee George Magoha has said.
Magoha said the new system, which he will help install when he moves to Jogoo House, will track every penny released from the ministry’s headquarters and ensure it is put to good use.
This is one of the measures he will put in place for efficiency in the ministry.
Magoha, who was vetted by Parliament last week, was addressing Pioneer School education day in Murang’a county on Saturday.
The outgoing chairman of the Kenya National Examinations Council asked stakeholders in the sector to support him in streamlining education.
“I am not Jesus Christ, I will give the strategy but we need to work together,” he said.

As soon as I put a computerised accounting system, I’ll be able to see how the money is moving even when I am in my home.

Education Cabinet Secretary nominee George Magoha

The Education Cabinet Secretary docket was until recently headed by Amina Mohamed,  who was moved to the Sports Ministry.
Magoha, a former University of Nairobi vice-chancellor,  also asked headteachers to stop delegating all their responsibilities for the new curriculum to be successful.
“Once you delegate responsibilities completely, you will lose control,” he said, noting that the new curriculum requires concerted efforts from all to make it work.
He said the new curriculum is good and will help to identify and develop children's other abilities at a young age.
Magoha appealed to the Ministry of Interior to fast-track the issuance of birth certificates especially for KCPE and KCSE candidates for them to register for the national examinations.
Errors in in-putting birth certificate numbers at times made it difficult to register pupils in the National Education Management Information System.
The errors, the CS nominee added, will be rectified so that no candidate is locked out of the national examinations.
