Images of a billboard containing a
derogatory term purportedly erected within Nairobi city have elicited
mixed reactions from Kenyans online.
The billboard, according to the now viral photos, is seen inscribed
with a word which — in slang — loosely alludes to sexual intercourse.
The images caught even the attention of Kenya Films and
Classifications Board (KFCB) CEO Ezekiel Mutua who rebuked it saying “in
the name of creativity, advertisers are sexualising everything under
the sun.”
The moral police, as he is often referred to, further called on the
county government officials who licensed the billboard to revoke it
immediately, adding “this is unacceptable.”
The photos, however, as it turns out, are works of photoshop as the billboard does not exists.
This was confirmed after Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko sent his staff
to the scene where the poster was alleged to have been erected and found
a different message altogether.
According to photos and videos posted by
the county chief, the billboard in question actually contains the word
‘Tumekudunga’; which loosely translates to “we have given you…”
